Faith Is Like Lollipop Sticks by sethness Faith Is Like Lollipop Sticks by sethness
Faith is only valuable to misled fools and power-hungry leaders without truth on their side.
I consider it a deep personality defect.

Doubt and questioning authority are essential parts of the Scientific Method, the best way to determine what's really true. Don't trust a dusty 2000 year old book that contradicts all the other dusty religions.

Now you're just not making sense.
You're searching or & inventing reasons to hate me, so you won't have to respect the idea that FAITH IS NONSENSICAL, a WAY TO SUSPEND DISBELIEF so you can easily be led around.

Stop being angry at me, and get angry at the people who are feeding you silly myths and asking you to take it on faith.

1. I don't hate you. I pity you.
2. to have faith in something you have to believe in it. That why I said you had so much faith.
3. Don't tell me who to get angry at.

...RRRrrright back at ya, there.
This would be a tautology, but the strength of your evidence is .. well .. as strong as a wet Kleenex. You just don't have the scientific method or the weight of sound evidence on the side of religion, and faith is a serious character flaw in the search for any kind of truth.

An' that pretty much sums up what we have to say to each other. No need to reply.

Sure, just like you could sit quietly in a rabbit hutch or herd of sheep and the neighbors wouldn't mind you not talking... or sit amongst stones and the neighbors wouldn't mind you not thinking.

I prefer to use the brains I was born with, and to use the Scientific Method in daily life to undermine assumptions. It's a higher purpose and more fitting to humanity's skill level than acting like a faithful, unquestioning sheep.

Listen, I'm Atheist, and I don't tell religious people to covert to Atheism. It's their belief. Let them do whatever they want. Not every religious person is homophobic, sexist, and racist.

Dude, you're not in a rap battle, nor from a book of Dr. Zeus or Zecora.
So, stop trying to rhythm.

Science has many flaws like religion, nothing is perfect.
You're closing your mind, you'll die young full of hate toward anyone, everyone... everything... even yourself... you'll follow the same path of many atheists sheeps...

Ah, no... belief in a myth that places them above the non-believers (us, and anyone of another religion) is the reason people hate atheists.
We're kicked around, yet we're the "brights". It's time we kick back.

Try this: listen to Fox news for a few days, especially around holidays... then assess your feelings.

Sinking to their level makes you no better than them. You're not doing anything to help Atheist not be treated like trash. Christians who say hateful things toward Atheist only want to think that Atheists are nothing but rude, mindless people, so you're only fueling them to treat more atheists the way that they do. You're not kicking back. You're not helping. You're being a dick, and you need to stop.

No, you're imagining that "the beatings will continue until morale improves" is a formula for success.
As long as we're quiet and don't point out the hatefulness and absurdity of the religious folks, they will continue to imagine that it's OK to act stupidly, act belligerently, and yet claim a moral superiority.

I'm saying that faith is a character flaw, and a hindrance to finding the truth.

There are plenty of people who behave intelligently outside religious thinking, but then strap on a dunce cap and accept the flimsiest, worst sorts of proofs when they think about religion.

Religion is not a character flaw. It's just a faith. Unless they are shoving it in your face, there's no reason to judge or insult a person for it. This is coming from an atheist.

Faith a character flaw. It's a way to keep people from questioning utterly silly things like a virgin birth & the story of Jonah and the whale, and an invisible super santa in the sky. It's a way to prevent people from recognizing the scientific evidence for evolution.

And THAT is a reason to judge someone. It's not an insult if it's true.

On another subject, if you think silence is working for Atheists like yourself, ask yourself how you felt saying "under god" in the Pledge of Allegiance at school every day, knowing that the politicians hired to defend the separation between church and state put that line into the Pledge in the 1950s?

How do you feel about Dubya saying, while in office, that he thinks Atheists are unAmerican?

How do you feel when Faux News constantly declares there's a "war on Christmas" when a department store uses "happy holidays" instead of "merry Christmas", or a government office is told to remove a creche or an Xmas tree?

How do you feel when fundamentalists try to push creationism into a science classroom?

How do you feel when you read that Atheists are trusted less than any religioius group in America?

How do you feel when some religion believer says that he thinks people will behave immorally if they don't have a religious faery tale shoving ten commandments down their throats?

>"We're kicked around, yet we're the "brights". It's time we kick back."
So instead of ignoring the religious nutcases and shit-talkers, you'd rather resort in childish revenge? That's counterproductive, you know. Hate will only breed more hate. I'm an agnostic theist and I hate Bible-bangers just as much as other non-believers do. But it goes against my morals to insult them back. Because my actions and behaviors aren't justified either.

And frankly, Faux News is shit. I wouldn't watch them even if I was paid to do so.

Ignoring? As in, "silence = assent"? That never works.
I went through 12 years of public school where religious (@*&#$ insisted that I had to say "one nation under god" every morning.
We have religious @(*#&$ trying to put creationism in the classroom.
No, silence would only empower them more.

As for "chidish", no, it's not childish any more than any other editorial cartoon is childish.

Sure, Faux news is shit....but the repugnicans and other conservatives have discovered that if you say a lie often enough, and there's no voice saying "ain't so", then people start to believe it.
Try googling some statistics about how people who listen to Fox News, NPR, and CBS compare in their beliefs about the invasion of Iraq-- you'll find that Fox news listeners still think Al Queda was linked to Iraq, and that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and that Iraq was behind 9/11.

I hear what you're saying, but I think you're looking at the world a little too idyllically. Even Ghandi realized that you have to do SOMEthing to make the social ills go away.

No, as in just ignoring their shit-talking and taking it with a grain of salt. Fighting hate with  hate is just going to breed more hate.
I went through the same shit during 12 years of parochial school, yet they were perfectly fine with other people of different faiths or even non-religious people. And if you don't like that one line in the Pledge of Allegiance, then you just don't say that line.

That's irrelevant here. I already know how Faux News works...That's why I said I hated it.

Yes, but I don't think Ghandi meant to bash and insult other people for having disagreeable opinions. :unimpressed:

I'm pointing out that faith is a pathetic reason to believe anything, and it keeps the religious from waking up to any number of truths about how the world works and how to test ones morality.

If you have the time, try borrowing "OutFoxed", a DVD, from your local library. Or, read the book "Republican Noise Machine". Those didn't form my opinion of the propoganda machine that Fox News is a part of, but certainly confirmed my opinion and added convincing evidence.

Oh, and Richard Brock's "Blinded by the Right" might be a ...ummm... "revelation", for lack of a better word.

People tend to just assume Fox News is bad because of it has views on both sides of an argument and not just one like other News Networks.  They don't like the fact that both sides of an argument have a point and not one is always completely correct.

Fox news, presenting both sides "objectively and fairly"? No, never. Fox News, when it bothers to try to present a view other than the right-wing conservative one, makes it a "straw man"-- a weakly presented, easily shot down imitation, not real opposition.
There is NOTHING "fair and objective" about Faux News.

Try reading some of the Al Franken books on the subject (researched by Harvard students). For example, "Lies and the lying liars who tell them" www.amazon.com/Lies-Lying-Liar…

Saying it doesn't make it so. You characterize yourself as being satisfied with belief rather than proof. That's being a sheep, rejecting the scientific method, and refusing to use the brains you were born with.

Do you not see your hypocrisy when you say "it would be great not to be insulted by someone who knows nothing about me"?
Every @)# religion is filled with believers who happily insult damn, torture, evict, and mistrust members of every other )*@$& religion, even when two religions have only a tiny sliver of difference between'em.
Religions invent a hell and consign every non-believer, with insults stapled to'em, to going to that imagined hell....even babies born & died halfway 'round the world, who never got exposed to that particular religion.

When you choose to believe in a secret super santa in the sky, and close your eyes to the possibility that it ain't so, then you can't be insulted for that belief because "insult" means to describe something below its real value... and religious belief is valueless.

Don't think of it as an insult. Think of it as an alarm clock. "Wake up!"

"Hate the sin, love the sinner."

Reexamine the thought processes that support your beliefs. They just don't stand up as praiseworthy evidence. Faith is the process of dumbing yourself down. It's not a praiseworthy, respectable way of thinking. Not ever. The label of "religion" (or any other label) should not justify ludicrously weak thinking.

Bullshit you most definitely are insulting me. You have no idea what my beliefs are or what my faith is yet you blatantly insult 5 billion people, including me, as "having a personality defect"

What about sins? your random quote makes no sense. nor does your claim that you are using "my religions" metaphor against me. Still don't know what metaphor that is.

Yes, I intensely dislike the BELIEFS of those people.
And I don't insult you, I insult your habit of believing rather than using the brains you were born with.

As for your reaction to my use of "hate the sin, love the sinner", perhaps I overrated the amount of brains you were born with.
I won't bother explaining it to you-- life's too short to argue with a long-winded, short-thinking person.
Look me up when you wake up. Till then, go post under someone else's art.
