Fall of the House of Escherby ~sethness

Traditional Art / Drawings / Surreal

A bad pun on M. C. Escher's art and Edgar Allen Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher".

This is a simple pencil sketch, colorized (badly) in Photoshop. I did this piece about 2 years ago... it's a bit embarrassing to go back and look with wiser eyes at how poorly I understood Photoshop at the time.

This piece is really trippy.

My brain is trying to register the perspective, but there are several.

It makes me think and I like that. I also really like the fact that it looks 3D. It really does. It's amazing. Great job!

This piece was of course inspired by a love of Escher, but first and foremost it's a mocking look at the whole silliness of portraying 3D objects with a 2D piece of art. The ladder, for example, is resting evenly against the wall although one leg is longer than the other-- yet while drawing, there's absolutely no reason one can't make it look perfectly reasonable.

It doesn't change the fact that it's an impressive drawing, done in imitation of a great artist.

It's an interesting piece, worthy perhaps of imitation.
