Please compare this version, hand colored using watercolor pencils
with the version I colored digitally. You can view that version at this link:…

Which do you like better?
This is an important question, which may influence how I do my art in the future.

It's entirely possible that the medium we're using to look at the versions interferes with our perception. Perhaps the digitally colored version looks better on digital media, while the hand colored version is better in person.

I'm surprised-- but I shouldn't be.
Ten years ago, my host family "mother" in Japan expressed the same sentiment: that the digitally colored version is more appealing than the hand-colored version.

To me, the digitally colored version is simple to the point of looking simple-minded-- flat, like a child would color it.
But... I bow to the weight of the audience's votes: 3 for digital, none for hand-colored.

Interestingly, I find that my buyers come in two flavors: those who want digital formats, for websites and Kindle books, and those who unswervingly want the hand-colored "originals" because they're unique and  can be hung on a wall with pride & without the shadow of the assembly line hanging over it, if you know what I mean.

I also prefer the digital version. I find the hand colored one too busy. The coloring is a bit too distracting.

I prefer the digital version - it's a lot cleaner.
