Moonshine, a Siamese kitten

Description

A new kitten to keep Moonshine (Bertrand Russell's Teapot) company.

She's spectacularly beautiful, but brainless and crazed. The neighborhood kids have nicknamed her "Crazy baby".

She attacks larger cats, toes of sleeping persons, and the neighbors' labrador. This week, she spent two days locked in an empty house: she snuck in while painters were there, and failed to make her presence known when they left. The neighborhood spent 48 hours searching for the owner and listening to increasingly alarming cries.

When Moonshine was released from her prison, I gave her food and water, and went to a meeting-- or at least, TRIED to leave for a meeting. The kitten didn't want food or water yet-- she just didn't want to be left alone, and wanted to be held for a half-hour. Sweet, crazy, stuuuupid cat!

Update: Nowadays, she gets her jollies and extra calories by going into the neighbor's house and eating the labrador's dinner. I figure it's a matter of days before hunger and anger cause an itty bitty kitty bloodbath.

Interesting facts about Siamese cats:
1)
Their odd color pattern is NOT a result of genetics saying "put a dot here; don't put a dot there" as it is with a tiger's stripes or a tabby's patchwork pattern.

No, these animals have a strange kind of thermally regulated, inherited albinoism: at full body temperature, their cells can't produce color. At slightly below body temperature, they can. So, the colder body parts (ears, Cleopatra eyeliner, nose, feet, tail) become darkly colored while the rest is lightly colored. The same cat will be mostly white in the tropics, but a tan/beige color in colder climates.

2)
When Siamese cats were first brought to England roughly a hundred years ago, a slight kink in their tails was commonplace. Breeders considered it a defect, so British (and American) Siamese now rarely have that kink. Cats in Thailand, however-- my Siamese AND my orange Tabby included-- still commonly have that kink.
